Born on July 27, 1930, Andrew McLuckie White was a prolific Scottish session drummer who earned a unique place in music history for his brief but significant collaboration with the Beatles. He is most famous for stepping in to replace Ringo Starr on drums during the recording of the band’s debut single, "Love Me Do."
This specific version, featuring White’s performance, was selected for the song’s American 7-inch release and was also included on their first British studio album, Please Please Me. Beyond the lead single, White also provided the percussion for the track’s B-side, "P.S. I Love You,"White died after a stroke at his home in Caldwell, New Jersey, on 9 November 2015 at the age of 85.
